COVID-19 Update – 4-H Alberta Responds to December 8, 2020 Announcement

4-H Alberta and COVID-19 – Important Notice – December 10, 2020

On December 8, 2020, the Government of Alberta, in partnership with Alberta Health Services (AHS), announced further restrictions in Alberta to reduce the spread of COVID-19 in the community.

Highlights of the public health measures that affect 4-H in Alberta:
  • All indoor and outdoor social gatherings – public and private – are restricted
  • All activities should be in household groupings

4-H Alberta will continue to monitor all Government of Alberta and AHS restrictions and communicate changes over the coming weeks.

4-H Alberta and all 4-H clubs are encouraged to continue to use virtual platforms to connect and provide at-home project work and virtual hands-on learning. For example, Google Meet, Zoom, phone calls and emails.

Please reflect on the 4-H Pledge and 4-H Motto. The fourth “H” is “My Health to better living,” and we wish all our 4-H members, leaders, volunteers, and supporters good health and to remain safe.

4-H is acting responsibly by following measures that will reduce the spread of the virus and protect frontline health care workers in Alberta. There is a lot of the 4-H club year left – keep going!

At 4-H Alberta, we are working on the following initiatives and committed to communicating details by December 18, 2020:
  • Member development opportunities (workshops, programs, FUN activities, 4-H member requirements)
  • Communication program alternatives (communication activity, public speaking, presentations)
  • Community service alternatives
  • Leader training opportunities (4-H workshops and virtual platform training)
  • An activity sharing platform for members and leaders

4-H Alberta Membership Fees

We have received many calls and emails, and we have heard your feedback about 4-H fees. We appreciate your patience as we promptly work through your requests and input. The 4-H Club year has just begun, and 4-H Alberta will continue to provide value for the $120.00 membership fee and $30.00 Cleaver Kids fee through member and leader program delivery using alternative methods. Regions and Districts will strive to do the same to the best of their abilities.

We are aware this has been a challenging time for our members, leaders, volunteers, and families. Thank you for your commitment to the 4-H program and your patience as we continue developing effective ways of delivering value through virtual learning support for our clubs. 4-H Alberta will continue to do everything we can to return to more traditional delivery methods as soon as possible. In the meantime, we’d love to hear some new and fun ways clubs are delivering their programs. We’d also love to share what’s working for you with other clubs, so we all benefit from our amazing community spirit and creativity.
