Submitted by Andrea Hanson, Chair of 4-H on Parade sub-committee
From June 1-4, 2023, over 425 4-Hers from across the Calgary 4-H Region gathered for another memorable 4-H on Parade at the Stampede Grounds. All of this was only possible with the many volunteers and parents who helped to make the weekend a success. Thank you to all who had a part in ensuring the 4-H members and Cleaver Kids made it to their classes on time… with a smile.
Successes at 4-H on Parade looked different to different 4-H members. Congratulations to those members who won their classes and took home the red ribbon. Congratulations to the member who showed up and did her/his best, having worked through the adversities of an injured project leading to the weekend. Congratulations to the families who experienced 4-H on Parade for the first time; getting through all the moving parts of the weekend is a feat. To the 4-H members who showed up on time with a smile, ready to participate…thank you; your smiles make the weekend worthwhile.
Thank you to the show committees for starting on time and keeping the show within the allotted timeframe. This might seem like a small point to consider, but when there are many moving parts to the weekend, keeping to the schedule makes the weekend enjoyable for all.
Thanks also to the Calgary Regional 4-H Council. As partners and supporters of 4-H on Parade, it is a pleasure to work with you throughout the year to host this weekend event. Many hours go into planning and executing 4-H on Parade, with most of those hours happening ahead of the weekend. The Calgary Regional 4-H Council has been part of 4-H on Parade since it was formed in the 1970s. The council’s involvement is both time and people support and financial.
Finally, thank you to the Calgary Stampede for hosting 4-H on Parade. To the sub-committee volunteers who help to plan 4-H on Parade, your enthusiasm and support is greatly appreciated. Thank you to the Stampede staff. The setup for 4-H on Parade starts months in advance to ensure the stalls and event areas are ready when families show up on Thursday. Not many venues in Alberta provide the service and support that we get for 4-H on Parade. Often clubs spend a day before their event setting up the stalling area and show ring; here, we pull in and get to work decorating, etc. At the end of the weekend, clubs only have to pack up their equipment; there is no need to teardown stalls, etc. A sweet deal.
4-H on Parade 2023 is now in the history books, and we can now look to 4-H on Parade 2024. For show results, click here.
