4-H on Parade Recap
The Calgary Stampede was thrilled to help create exceptional memories and experiences for almost 400 4-H youth members and their families by welcoming 4-H on Parade, presented by Brandt, back to Stampede Park for the first time since 2019. For over 40 years, Calgary Region 4-H members have converged on Stampede Park to showcase their projects, achievements, and life skills. It was an action-packed weekend full of shows, demonstrations, and friendly competitions.
Andrea Hanson, Chair, 4-H on Parade Sub-Committee notes that success at 4-H on Parade manifests itself in many ways. There are the winners who walk away with the red and blue ribbons, but there are also many other types of success, from those members who clip or trim their animal for the first time by themselves, or those with the courage and tenacity to help a nervous horse or dog overcome its fears and still participate by the end of the weekend. A member is successful each time they have the opportunity to live out the 4-H motto of “Learn to do by Doing”.
4-H on Parade is not possible without the dedication and support of 4-H leaders and volunteers, as well as Calgary Stampede volunteers and employees who give their time to ensure a top-notch show. THANK YOU to everyone who helped make 4-H on Parade 2022 a success!
An auction of market projects capped off the weekend, including the sale of “Kermit”, the charity lamb raised by the Airdrie 4-H Beef & Sheep club. “Kermit” was sold and was then donated back a total of 5 times for a grand sum of $24,297, which will benefit the Cerebral Palsy Kids and Families Association.

4-H on Parade Multi Judging and CDM
At 4-H on Parade for 2022 we had 5 classes judged and a memory class for the members to participate in on Thursday evening, May 26.
Members judged: Canine – Farm Dogs; EPDs – Bulls; Sheep – yearling ewes; Steers; Mystery class provided by Brandt – tractors; and Memory class – 10 items for juniors, 15 items for intermediates, 20 items for seniors. There were 36 juniors registered, 43 intermediates registered and 40 seniors registered.
On Saturday, May 28, the Consumer Decision Making competition was held with the following classes: Breakfast Cereal; Sunscreen; Toys; and Yogurt. There were 15 juniors registered, 14 intermediates registered and 14 seniors registered. Unfortunately due to shows running later than expected, the number of members who judged the CDM classes was less than half of those registered – but the members who did judge enjoyed it.
Many thanks to the judging committee chair Kelli Becker and to the CDM sub-chair Joanne Gourley for organizing these events and to all the volunteers who help to run the events, it could not be done without your help!
