Seeking Volunteers for the  4-H Alberta Board of Directors

4-H is a youth development organization that guides, supports and inspires Alberta’s greatest resource, the youth of Alberta.  It is Alberta’s premier youth organization that encourages youth to learn to do by doing, and empowers them to become leaders and volunteers in their clubs, communities, countries, and the world.

The 4-H Alberta Board represents all of the geographic areas of the province and has the skills necessary to steward 4-H Alberta. Interested individuals will need to commit to a maximum of a three-year term to serve on the elected Board of Directors.

There are 4 upcoming vacancies on the 4-H Alberta Board of Directors for which the Governance & Nominating Committee will be seeking applications. These vacancies are:

  • Area Director for East/West Central Regions (3-year term)
  • Diversity Director (3-year term)
  • Youth Director (2-year term)

4-H Alberta encourages the submission of applications for these Director positions. Selected applicants will be interviewed by the 4-H Alberta Board Governance and Nominating Committee. Qualified candidates for the Area Directors will be sent back to the respective Regions to vote in their nominee for Area Director by April 22, 2022. In the event of a tie, the final candidate will be determined by the 4-H Alberta Governance and Nominating Committee.

4-H Alberta Board of Director Role:

The principal role and legal duty of the board is to oversee the strategic direction, management and operation of 4-H Alberta’s business and affairs. Accordingly, the board oversees the development of the overarching strategic direction and policy framework for 4-H Alberta, ensures that 4-H Alberta’s activities are consistent with its mandate and evaluates the organization’s overall efficiency and effectiveness in using financial and human resources to meet 4-H Alberta’s objectives.

These duties are mainly discharged through board oversight of the Chief Executive Officer who is responsible for overseeing the management and day to day operations of 4-H Alberta. The board is responsible for the selection, monitoring and evaluation of the Chief Executive Officer and the Chief Executive Officer is ultimately responsible for the quality and performance of 4-H Alberta’s administration. In this way the board assumes responsibility for the stewardship of 4-H Alberta.

Seeking Volunteers for the Alberta 4-H Foundation Board of Trustees

4-H is a youth development organization that guides, supports and inspires Alberta’s greatest resource, the youth of Alberta.  It is Alberta’s premier youth organization that encourages youth to learn to do by doing, and empowers them to become leaders and volunteers in their clubs, communities, countries, and the world.

The Alberta 4-H Foundation’s mission is to administer new and existing resources to enhance 4-H in Alberta. Directors who serve on the Alberta 4-H Foundation board dedicate their time, energy and skills in support of this mission.

The new Trustees for the Alberta 4-H Foundation Board will be knowledgeable, experienced and responsible individuals who are committed to maintaining the financial longevity and sustainability of 4-H Alberta.

Interested individuals will need to commit to a minimum of 3-years to serve on the elected Foundation Board of Trustees.

 

Join the Foundation as a Trustee:

The Foundation looks for trustees with a wide range of skills. One or more of these key attributes are important:

  • Training and experience in professions such as money management, accounting, legal, and or banking.
  • Strong, broad connections in their local community or business network
  • An eager desire to see 4-H succeed for the long term, and the confidence to reach out to others in support of 4-H Alberta’s fundraising endeavours
  • Diverse and inclusive representation
  • An understanding of the 4-H program, often through previous participation as member, volunteer or 4-H parent

 

Foundation Board of Trustee Role:

The trustee’s role is specifically focused on the stewardship of all 4-H Alberta’s ongoing assets, ensuring they are being properly maintained and invested diligently.

The CEO and applicable staff work closely with both the Alberta 4-H Foundation Board of Trustees and the 4-H Alberta Board of Directors to ensure the successful continuation of 4-H in Alberta.

 

About the Alberta 4-H  Foundation

The Alberta 4-H Foundation is made up of volunteers, also called “Trustees”. Our trustees are dedicated, experienced, and responsible individuals who are committed to maintaining the financial longevity and sustainability of 4-H Alberta.

The  Alberta 4-H Foundation Board of Trustees is elected by 4-H Alberta’s Board of Directors.

The roles of Alberta 4-H Foundation are:

(a) in conjunction with 4-H Alberta to promote, foster and maintain a high quality youth development program built on the premise promoted by 4-H Alberta of nurturing responsible, caring and contributing leaders who are committed to positively impacting their communities;

(b) support the curricular and extra-curricular activities of 4-H Alberta to advance youth education and leadership skills in various fields of human endeavor, including, without limitation, 4-H Alberta’s historical connection to agriculture

(c) provide by way of gift, sale, lease or otherwise, money, equipment and capital assets to 4-H Alberta;

(d) establish and maintain endowment funds for the benefit of Alberta 4-H Foundation and/or 4-H Alberta;

(e) manage assets allowing 4-H Alberta to advance the education of members who have participated in 4-H programs in Alberta through prizes, bursaries, fellowships, scholarships or otherwise

(f) solicit and raise funds and apply for grants to carry out the purposes of 4-H Alberta and Alberta 4-H Foundation

(g) provide strategic guidance relating to fundraising, investments and long term capital plans to and cooperate with 4-H Alberta and other interested persons or groups in such matters as are necessary or desirable and conducive to the attainment of the purposes of Alberta 4-H Foundation

(h) receive and accept donations, contributions and gifts of any kind and nature whatsoever, whether by way of bequest, devise, gift, contribution or otherwise, and to apply such donations, contributions and gifts in such a way as will, in the opinion of the Board of Alberta 4-H Foundation, serve the best interests of Alberta 4-H Foundation and 4-H Alberta;

(i) acquire by purchase, lease or otherwise, property, both real and personal and any interests therein, and hold, lease and manage such property as required for the benefit of Alberta 4-H Foundation and 4-H Alberta; sell and convert property, both real and personal, into money and to hold and invest such money as required; and use the funds of Alberta 4-H Foundation and the proceeds, income, rents, issues and profits derived from any property of Alberta 4-H Foundation; all in furtherance of the specific purposes set forth above
