Seeking Volunteers for the 4-H Alberta Board of Directors
4-H is a youth development organization that guides, supports and inspires Alberta’s greatest resource, the youth of Alberta. It is Alberta’s premier youth organization that encourages youth to learn to do by doing, and empowers them to become leaders and volunteers in their clubs, communities, countries, and the world.
The 4-H Alberta Board represents all of the geographic areas of the province and has the skills necessary to steward 4-H Alberta. Interested individuals will need to commit to a maximum of a three-year term to serve on the elected Board of Directors.
There are 3 upcoming vacancies on the 4-H Alberta Board of Directors for which the Governance & Nominating Committee will be seeking applications. These vacancies are:
- Area Director for Peace Region (3-year term)
- Area Director for East/West Central Region (3-year term) – The application deadline for this position only has been extended to March 1, 2023.
- Diversity Director (3-year term)
4-H Alberta encourages the submission of applications for these Director positions. Selected applicants will be interviewed by the 4-H Alberta Board Governance and Nominating Committee. Qualified candidates for the Area Directors will be sent back to the respective Regions to vote in their nominee for Area Director by April 1, 2023. In the event of a tie, the final candidate will be determined by the 4-H Alberta Governance and Nominating Committee.

The principal role and legal duty of the board is to oversee the strategic direction, management and operation of 4-H Alberta’s business and affairs. Accordingly, the board oversees the development of the overarching strategic direction and policy framework for 4-H Alberta, ensures that 4-H Alberta’s activities are consistent with its mandate and evaluates the organization’s overall efficiency and effectiveness in using financial and human resources to meet 4-H Alberta’s objectives.
These duties are mainly discharged through board oversight of the Chief Executive Officer who is responsible for overseeing the management and day to day operations of 4-H Alberta. The board is responsible for the selection, monitoring and evaluation of the Chief Executive Officer and the Chief Executive Officer is ultimately responsible for the quality and performance of 4-H Alberta’s administration. In this way the board assumes responsibility for the stewardship of 4-H Alberta.

EAST/WEST CENTRAL AREA DIRECTOR POSITION APPLICATION DEADLINE EXTENDED TO MARCH 1, 2023.
4-H Alberta is hiring Summer Program Coordinators to join our team. Successful candidates will be creative, high-energy, and thrive in a fast paced environment. As a Summer Program Coordinator, you will spend your summer creating and implementing the summer camps of your dreams! Gain experience program planning, coordinating volunteers, and working with youth of all ages across the province. These positions will be based out of the beautiful Alberta 4-H Centre on Battle Lake, where accommodations will be provided.

- Starting wage: $18.00/hour
- Position headquarters is the Alberta 4-H Centre, Westerose, AB
- Summer Program Coordinators will work out of the Alberta 4-H Centre in May and June. Shared living accommodations will be provided.
- Accommodation, meals, and transportation to various camp locations during summer programs in July and August will be provided.
- Start Date: May 8, 2023
- End Date: September 1, 2023
- Work out of the Alberta 4-H Centre Monday to Friday, with occasional weekend hours
- Plan content and prepare for summer programs
- Help with site preparation and maintenance
- Implement additional school and/or weekend programs for youth
- Implement overnight camp programs at locations across Alberta
- Days off scheduled in between your assigned programs
- Help train and coordinate volunteer Youth Leaders to support programs
- Complete ongoing summer program administrative tasks
4-H Alberta’s summer programs include overnight and day camps that range from one to six days in length. There are a variety of programs available for youth ages 9-20, as well as opportunities for 4-H families of all ages. The Summer Program Coordinators will be assigned specific programs to coordinate and implement throughout the summer. - Run safe, inclusive, and fun programming for all ages
- Develop and prepare summer program content and activities
- Work with fellow 4-H Alberta staff to successfully implement summer programs
- Drive 4-H vehicles to and from assigned summer programs
- Oversee the daily operations of summer programs, including delegate supervision and safety
- Coordinate Youth Leaders and other program volunteers
- Conduct first aid and manage conflict or incidents during programs
- Complete wrap-up tasks for each program including an overview of camp, delegate evaluation summary, Youth Leader evaluations, accident reports, health logs, additional feedback, etc.
- Help with site preparation and maintenance at the Alberta 4-H Centre
- Other duties and responsibilities as assigned
- Completed at least one year post-secondary education
- Valid Class 5 Alberta Drivers’ License and willingness to obtain a Driver’s Abstract
- Current Standard First Aid and CPR/AED (Level C) certification or ability to obtain prior to start date
- Ability to obtain a clear police check with a vulnerable sector check prior to start date
- Excellent leadership and communication skills
- Organized and able to efficiently manage time within designated work hours
- Comfortable instructing and working directly with youth of all ages
- Able to work independently, and collaboratively, as part of a team
- Current Lifeguard certification
- Experience working with youth, specifically with youth programming
- 4-H and/or summer camp experience
