Area Director Northeast
Janice Wirstra was raised on a family farm near Chauvin, Alberta, and was a 4-H member in both beef and lighthorse clubs. She attended 4-H summer camps, exchanges, Club Week, Conservation Camp, and Selections, and worked for 4-H as the Summer Programs Coordinator, the Pheasant/Environmental Coordinator, and Winter 4-H Assistant. Both of her parents were 4-H members and leaders, her dad a leader for 40 years, and her Mom for 25. Both parents were inducted into the 4-H Alberta Hall of Fame.
Janice earned a Communications and Tourism degree from the University of Calgary. She went on to a career with the Bank of Montreal and ATB Financial in the business and agricultural lending area, as a Financial Controller for a mid-sized oil and gas construction company, and returned to ATB Financial in the business and agricultural lending five years ago.
Janice and her husband own and operate a purebred cattle operation. They have two daughters, both of whom have been 4-H members since they were eligible. As her youngest daughter is nearing the end of her 4-H membership years, Janice is wanting to give back to the program that was such a large part of her life in shaping who she is, and contributed to her successes in life.
