Check back in the fall 2020 for more information.
How does 4-H Alberta programs impact the 4-H leaders/volunteers? We have available for you to review the impact report on Uncover the Leader in You 2019
4-H Alberta Leader Learning Days (also know as “Uncover the Leader in You”) were first introduced in the Fall of 2019. 4-H leaders, parents, volunteers, staff and a few Senior Members from across Alberta gathered for a day of intense learning, invaluable networking and a whole lot of fun. Leaders renewed their zest for the 4-H program and swap ideas with respected peers.
4-H Alberta worked with two regions to plan and implement the full day. 4-H Alberta was responsible for providing provincial content for half of the day, and the region volunteers were responsible for the content for the other half of the day.
The learning day was offered in two locations – Grande Prairie (Nov 16) co-hosted with the Peace Region and Drumheller (Nov 23) co-hosted with the East Central Region. Each learning day had the same keynote workshop in the morning and the afternoon sessions were unique to what the organizing committee felt was important to that particular region.
The keynote presenter was Carrie Foster from the Search Institute, a nonprofit organization that studies and works to strengthen youth success in schools, coalitions, youth and family organizations. Throughout their 60-year history, they have focused on improving the outcomes and success of youth.
The workshop helped teach participants to be intentional and strategic in strengthening relationships while tapping into Search Institute’s research as a gateway to relationship-building with young people.
The workshop also highlighted 4-H’s positive youth development model and how it can be utilized. Positive Youth Development is a globally-recognized and heavily-researched approach to working with children and youth that is strengths-based and focuses on building assets in youth.
In addition, the learning day had sessions on communications, balancing a multi club, leader level 1 training, running successful meetings, personality traits, beyond the club opportunities, and a whole lot more.
