Sally Barkwell

Platinum Jubilee Medal Recipient
“Passionate Advocate and Driving Force in the 4-H Community”

Sally Barkwell, an avid supporter of the 4-H program, recognizes the value of the skills taught through the program, particularly in communication and leadership. From her early involvement in the Boundary 4-H Club, where she excelled in judging and communications, to her instrumental role in revitalizing the Peace River 4-H Multi Club, Sally has demonstrated her unwavering dedication to 4-H.

For over 21 years, Sally has held various leadership positions, encouraging members to fully embrace the opportunities offered by 4-H. She has organized numerous events, including bench shows during the Peace Regional 4-H Days, summer camps, and communications events aimed at helping members hone their public speaking skills. Her infectious enthusiasm motivates others to get involved.

Sally’s commitment to 4-H goes beyond the club level, extending to the district, regional, and provincial levels. She has been a part of organizing committees for provincial and regional events, such as the Provincial 4-H Leaders’ Conference and the Western Regional 4-H Leader Forum in 2017. As a member of the 4-H Provincial Council, she was involved in the restructuring of Alberta 4-H Council and the adoption of the Equine Helmet policy.

With a true passion for 4-H in Alberta, Sally brings a wealth of knowledge and experience, while remaining open to exploring new ways of delivering the 4-H program. Her dedication, mentorship, and thousands of hours spent sharing her expertise have helped ensure that 4-H remains an exemplary youth program.
