4-H Alberta is pleased to be able to offer the following 2023 Senior Symposium trip opportunities:
This is your opportunity to explore the agriculture industry in Alberta! Jump on the bus with your fellow 4-H members and prepare for a whirlwind tour with stops at large scale Alberta agriculture operations and local food producers. Enjoy fantastic meals made from Alberta products, camp overnight in local communities and discover the various opportunities in agriculture with hands-on learning!
Travel on a bus to various beautiful locations throughout central BC, meeting with local 4-Hers and participating in fantastic 4-H activities. Visit local agriculture destinations, swim in interior BC lakes, and enjoy your camping experience this summer!
This is the ultimate camping trip. Pack up your gear and load on the bus because we’re heading north for an unforgettable adventure. Experience vast swathes of boreal forest and arctic tundra, mighty rivers and majestic lakes. Along the way you’ll tour a variety of farms and agricultural enterprises to expand your knowledge on the diverse and exciting agriculture practices happening in your own backyard. Oh, and don’t forget your bug spray.
Fly out to B.C. for Provincial Club Week (PCW), a unique six-day experience for senior members, with a focus on personal development. The PCW conference will include sessions on effective communication, self-awareness, building positive relationships, and collaborative teamwork. Participants also take an active leadership role in the program’s on-site organization through participation in social, recreation, banquet, talent show and sponsorship committees.
Members Forum is 4-H Canada’s longest-running program. This iconic event is the premier opportunity for 4-H youth across Canada to come together for an impactful, engaging, and fun-filled conference in Toronto. Through experiential learning and interactive activities, delegates will connect with other 4-H’ers, explore career paths with expert mentors, and develop the skills they need for the future.
4-H Canada’s Citizenship Congress is considered a flagship program that gives 4-H members knowledge and insight about Canada, its history and its systems. Delegates will travel to Ottawa to explore and develop skills related to civic engagement, governance, parliamentary procedures, citizenship, and politics as they prepare for the annual Citizenship Congress debate.
Spring Senior Symposium Registration is first come, first serve. Spaces are limited and your spot in the program is not reserved until full payment is received.
The registration fee includes all food, accommodation, programming and delegate packs. If you will require any accommodations or support during the program, please include details in the notes section of your registration.
If you have any questions about registration or programming, please email programs@4hab.com or call Madeleine Luft: 403-370-7337.
Regarding Highway Cleanup
The 2023 Spring Senior Symposium falls on the same weekend as Alberta Transportation’s highway clean-up. The Spring Senior Symposium (formerly “Selections”) has been hosted during the highway clean-up weekend for many years so as not to conflict with school, 4-H communication, and achievement day schedules.
4-H Alberta recognizes that some 4-H clubs have highway cleanup participation as a club member requirement and count on their Senior Members’ help. However, clubs are encouraged to consider alternative solutions to help their Senior Members attend the Senior Symposium and meet their 4-H requirements.
Some examples of possible solutions include: having a family member participate in their place, completing a separate community service/fundraiser activity, planning a workshop for their club, etc. We encourage Senior Members to work with their clubs to come up with a positive solution.
